802.11n wireless standard approved
802.11n standard

IEEE has today approved ratification of 802.11n as a final standard with detailed standard to be available in October 2009. This means that its taken over six years to be approved from the time it was first proposed.

We can now expect faster, more reliable and compatible wireless (wifi) networking in the future, with wireless networking beoming a real alternative to wired fast ethernet. Performance of 802.11n wireless products are significantly faster with the real world througput of over 180Mbps is, which is:

  • ~x 2 quicker than 100Mbit wired ethernet
  • x 8+ quicker than earlier 802.11a/g wireless standard
  • x 36 quicker than 802.11b standard
