Monday, 13 April 2009 Nehalem processors almost double the processing power of the generation they replaced! There's been a buzz about these processors for a few months now and as the likes of IBM, HP and Dell are yet to start shipping updated servers, its been diffulct to fully understand the performance gains of the new 5500 Xeons. Anadtech have recently done a comprehensive review of these processors using white branded gear and results are very excisiting. At least 50% of servers shipping now will be used for virtualisation so its easier to just compare the VMWare's vmmark benchmarks: Dual Xeon x5470 (3.33Ghz): 7 tiles Dual Xen X5570 (2.93Ghz): 13 tiles. Quad Xen 7460 (3.66 Ghz): 14 Tiles Thats almost twice the peformance of the older generation its replaced, and almost on par with its bigger brother quad socket processors! IBM's range of servers featuring the new processors will come out in blades as well as updated x3650M2/x3550M2 whilst HP's G6 generation of servers will also feature the new processor.
